Barbados
Barbados is one of the most established and developed islands in the Caribbean and as such it is a very 'safe' choice for first time Caribbean visits, first time investments and almost guaranteed returns. Property prices keep escalating and there is no sign of this abating. Historically, the worst case scenario is that prices hold their own in a global recession, but we have never known them to fall.
The 'Bajans' are warm and friendly, there is a good range of excellent hotels, restaurants, beaches and activities. The service in both the tourism and property industry is gracious and generally efficient.
As a 'hub' island it has the best transport in the region in terms of flights from North America, Canada and Europe, as well as for inter-island hopping. It is no surprise that most of the real estate interest we receive for the Caribbean is directed at Barbados.
Barbados is best for beaches, golf, high end villas, polo, horse racing, nightlife, restaurants, water sports and general island activities.
Airlines

Barbados is served by Grantley Adams International Airport (airport code BGI). The airport is located on the south coast
Banking
Banks on Barbados are open Monday to Thursday, 8.00am - 3.00pm and Friday, 8.00am - 5.00pm. The Mutual Bank is open later on a Friday, until 7.00pm and until 2.00pm on a Saturday. The Caribbean Commercial Bank is also open from 9.00am - 1.00pm on Saturdays.
Car hire
We can recommend the best car rental companies on the island and we will happily make the arrangements for you. The companies we work with have been known to us over many years and offer the best services and fleet quality. It is always best to book in advance but it is essential to do so for peak holiday periods because the companies run out of stock.
Credit Cards
Major international credit cards are generally accepted at all large shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, etc.
Currency
The currency of Barbados is the Barbados dollar (Bds) which is linked to the US dollar at the exchange rate of US$1 to Bds$1.98 although US dollars are widely accepted on the island.
Departure Tax
Departure Tax of Bds$55 (US$27.50) is levied for all passengers over 12 years.
Electricity
Generally, 115/230 volts, 50 cycles AC with 2-pin style plugs and sockets.
Entry Requirements

Language
English is the official language of Barbados.
Medical
Barbados has very good medical facilities compared to many Caribbean islands.

Port
The main sea port in Barbados is Deep Water Harbour in Bridgetown.
Service Charges & Tax
For all hotels and restaurant bills there is a Government tax of 7.5%. Most hotels also apply a 10% service charge. 15% VAT will be added to most services, such as tourist attractions, restaurants, shopping and intermittently, Car Hire.
Shopping
Most shops are open between 8.30-9.00am - 4.30-5.30pm on weekdays and from 9.00am - 1.00pm on Saturday. Some shops will open later during the week even as late as 9.00pm, up to about 3.30pm on Saturdays and even a few open on Sundays.
Taxis
Taxis are easily available at taxi stands or through reception at a hotel. Always check or establish the price before hiring a taxi as they are not metered.

Barbados is 4 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.

Weather
Barbados claims to receive 3000 hours of sunshine a year although it never really gets too hot because of the ever-present cooling breeze. Although the rainy season in the Caribbean is from June to October inclusive, it is more often the case that from August through to late October there are more overcast days and this is the period when there is the greatest chance of rainfall and tropical storms. May, June, and November through to mid-December are good times of the year to go specifically for viewing properties as hotel and villa rental prices are at their lowest and the island is less busy so you are likely to get better attention.
